Problems are often made more difficult than they need to be and we do not always do the best job of allocating our attention towards the most important aspects of a problem. A quality CSM aims to resolve this.
A CSM is ‘a written or pictorial representation of an environmental system and the biological, physical and chemical processes that determine the transport of contaminants from sources through environmental media to environmental receptors in the system’. This concept is readily expanded to other fields such as geotechnical and water resources.
A CSM is typically emphasized on environmental, geotechnical, or other geologically-oriented projects, but the solution is often a document, which typically features figures and visualizations, but these are - at best - good attempts to convey three-dimensional information in a two-dimensional format.
The Digital CSM has been increasingly emphasized in recent years. Rather than a document and/or figures, the DCSM is a virtual 3D environment where the user can explore and interact with site in a way that provides a significantly higher level of understanding than that gained from text, tables, figures, and other 2D deliverables.
A DCSM can be produced for most sites for nearly any budget (level of complexity) and can be utilized by anyone using free and simple view-only software. Modeling projects often provide a 'modeling report' as the deliverable, when it is the model itself that project managers, regulators, and other interested parties should be interested in.

Clearwater offers hydrogeologic consulting services including aquifer and well-performance testing and analysis, groundwater modeling, capture zone evaluation, contaminant fate and transport, well and filter pack design, performing and evaluating slug testing, well development and rehabilitation, potentiometric surfaces and groundwater flow studies, monitoring well network and/or data gap evaluation, mass-flux calculations, monitored natural attenuation (MNA) studies, instrumentation and data QA/QC, and other topics related to water resources and groundwater contamination.

Clearwater's owner is a licensed OUPV captain and can perform surface water and sediment sampling on most inland bodies of water in the United States, or is qualified to transport and assist your staff when a qualified operator is needed to reach sampling locations.
